This book is a true labor of love that every roller derby fan is going to enjoy There are few books on this sport and this is easily the best researched book on the topic and is well writtenEd Koch combines his writing and research skills with his passion for the game The book provides a wealth of data from history of the sport to skating team profiles in the major leagues to lists of players on each team s roster This kind of info is simply not available elsewhere Brought back many memories I really enjoyed this book I personally know many of the people mentioned and know of many others who were referenced Although not all of the facts are correct as far as I know this is Roller Derby and who really knows for sure what is true This book was a very good read for anyone who has worked in or watched Roller Derby or Roller Games I highly recommend it for readers who have an interest in the sport I was happy to see this publication finally available in a printed format rather than the Kindle edition only Ed Koch does an exemplary ob and provides insightful details as to why the original Roller Derby ended in 1973 I also enjoyed his listings. How could a pro sport that in the 1950s was televised three times a week live in prime time on a major network and by 1973 had 15 million weekly TV viewers descend so uickly into obscuritySuch was the fate that met banked track Roller Derby a game that was invented in the United States in 1935 grew to achieve widespread popularity over the next few decades and had all but disappeared from the national scene by the late 1980s Longtime Las Vegas ournalist Ed Koch has spent than 30 years studying the meteoric rise.
