OesHating the fact that she s been married off to Bres and sent to spy on the enemy she does her best to overcome a bitter rivalry with Morrigan another woman who seeks her husbands attentions while also trying to maintain the peace within both tribes As time goes by she comes to realize that her anam cara does indeed exist Yet she knows that they can never be A fact that breaks her heart over and over againAs tensions rise and invasion is inevitable Brigid realizes that there are too many lies and deceptions being played by both sides Feeling betrayed by those she s always loved she finds it difficult to forgive their treachery Despite this she resolves to make the best of things while protecting those that she loves than life itself was pleasantly surprised by Once a Goddess Seeing the cover I thought it was children literature but it isn tThe story revolves around a strong but not flawless main character Even though she is technically not really human due to her supernatural powers she is easy to relate to She has emotions and desires just like everyone but is forced to let go of her own happiness for the sake of her people s survivalThere were a few things in the beginning that caused me to not get into the story straight away mainly the fact that the powers of her people were listed instead of gradually presented to the reader and I just did not get why view spoilerthey allowed their magical people to be massacred if they had the means to stop that from happening Besides they were in an island not like anyone could live to tell others of their secret powers hide spoiler I was so engrossed in Sheila Lamb s storytelling that I read the entire book in one sitting much to the dismay of my dog who wanted to go to the park and to detriment of the tasks and errands needing to be done that Saturday who needs clean clothes anyway Brigid marries Bres the son of the warring clan s chieftain as a way of bringing peace to the two tribes Bres is keeping secrets from Brigid Brigid is keeping secrets from Bres And there are secrets between the two tribes that a handful of tribal elders have managed to keep for years despite the intuitive ability of Brigid s clansmen and women Suspense builds throughout the novel as secrets come to light and Brigid struggles with the fallout from each one Yet not all of the mysteries are solved leaving me impatient for the release of the next book in the trilogy I m organizing a tour for Once a Goddess with the author and I can t wait to share those posts with you Once a Goddess is a niue Celtic tale of love family ties and duty to ones community Brigid is a member of the legendary clan of th. For the sake of her clan the Danann Brigid marries Bres of the Fomorian clan Despite not loving Bres Brigid is determined to make the marriage work in order to keep the peace between the two Irish tribes In the first season of our marriage he hadn t spoken of his childhood at all I studied the meaning behind his words and a cold knife cut through me He didn t trust me It seemed he held back information My intuitive sense belied his words Strangely it hurt Yet I couldn t say that I trusted him either 41 But then Brigid meets Adraic her anam cara which is similar to a soul mate My words my false words sank in I had lied to him He was than a friend We were connected in ways we had just begun to nderstand Adraic stood his eyes bitter as the wind that howled outside 71 On one hand I rooted for Bres who had light For the Love of All Thats Holy, Dont Buy a Boat When Venus is in Retrograde ualities beneath his dark facade and Adraic who had annwavering love for Brigid I absolutely loved this novel even though I rarely read fantasymythology Lamb s excellent writing and story telling immediately cast a spell on me and I can t wait to read the seuel My only complaint was when the novel ended In fact I actually groaned not because the ending was abrupt or anything like that but because I wanted to read Great story well written strong characters I was impressed with how strong and self sufficient many of the female characters were written I really enjoyed this book even though I am not sually a fan of historical fiction so I recommend Once a Goddess to those those who enjoy historical andor romance fiction as well as to those who just enjoy a good recreational read It will be interesting to see where the next book in the Brigid of Ireland trilogy leads Brigid and her Danann people This was such a stirring story I enjoyed it very much I m looking forward to the rest of the series when the time comesAlthough a work of fiction it was truly wonderful learning about the T atha d Danann and of the Fomorians Not to mention the Fir Bolgs I kept trying to picture what these ancient races would have been like so long ago While they are a part of Irish mythology Sheila was able to paint such a vivid picture of their customs and of what they were like that you feel drawn to the lives of all the characters found within her storyBrigid who was forced at a young age to phold a treaty between her people and those of the Fomorians never really knew what she was getting herself into Sacrificing all hope of ever finding her anam cara she reluctantly enters an arranged marriage with Bres a man who s the next in line to be chieftain of his race One who is willing to do anything to maintain his position in all that he For the sake of peace Brigid of the supernatural Túatha dé Danann enters into an arranged marriage with Bres the next chieftain of the enemy Fomorian tribe whose iron weapons and brute strength challenge Danann magic Brigid is told to spy for her people and to keep the source of their power.
